The City of Temple

History

Temple was founded in 1881 by the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railroad. It was initially a railroad town, but it was incorporated in 1882. The town was named after Bernard Moore Temple, who was the Santa Fe Railroad official at the time, a civil engineer, and former surveyor with the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railway Company.

Temple is known as the "Wildflower Capital of Texas." In 2019, the city had around 74,762 residents but is a growing city that has multiple museums that focus on the history and culture of the area.
